Rare lull in Southern California earthquakes

July 13th, 2008, 4:53 am · 4 Comments · posted by Gary Robbins, science writer-editor

Quake wrap-up, July 6-12Southern California’s normally restless earthquake faults barely twitched during the week ending July 12, as you can see in our new weekly quake wrap-up. There wasn’t a single 3.0 or larger quake in the counties of Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside or San Bernardino. Usually, the region records three or more quakes that measure 3.0 or larger.

Such seismic lulls are rare, but they do happen. Here’s a sample of the week’s events. PLEASE CLICK HERE to enlarge map, and click on blue bubbles for details about individual quakes.

A good earth quake is just the slap in the face we need to go with our financial crisis. Dam that feels good.

  2. Richard Says:

Rare lull is bad news! No microquakes releasing the pressure will spell big ones later on.

  3. Andy Says:

    You spoke too soon - 5.8 today 7/29 - a good shake.

  4. Loren Nason Says:

the first thing i though of when i felt the quake today was this article and when i read the article on the data you posted I knew something was coming.
