I’ve been testing an application for the Apple iPhone that lets you easily listen to radio transmissions by Orange County firefighters, a utility that could prove very useful to people who need up-to-the minute information if a wildfire breaks out. The app, called Police Five-O Radio, takes seconds to download. The radio transmissions are very clear, and they cover virtually every area of California. I suspect that this app would be especially useful to people who are trying to find out what is going on in their neighborhood when a wildfire breaks out when they’re elsewhere. There are a variety of stationary and hand-held radios that often the same service. But the iPhone is so portable, and dependable, it seems like a useful app to have if you live in Southern California. The app costs 99-cents.
