Apparently, I made this week’s contest too easy. Many readers knew that this photo shows the Maldives. The first two readers to correct identify the photo were Robert Wilson and OhioGirl. I’ll be sending them high quality science books.

Great Barrier Reef
A photo of the Maldive islands, at risk of disappearing if sea level rise too much.
The islands are sinking. A geological thing.
Cameron Moore of Irvine says the image appears to be a south Pacific atoll.

That’s a picture of something I found in the back of my little refrigerator in my college dorm.
Those are indeed the Maldives as a couple of other readers pointed out. They are in the Indian Ocean. Robert Wilson and OhioGirl should win the prize unless you were looking for more specific information.

It looks like someone’s foot in water pressing perhaps against glass or perspex. I can only imagine it’s at the Discovery Science Center just of the freeway. Well that’s my guess
I’m betting it’s part of the large man-made archipelago under construction off the coast of Dubai.
Oh and the lighter blue spots are probably where air bubbles have pooled.

And to be exact it would be the Southern Malhosmadulhu Atoll (or the Baa Atoll) that most of this picture covers.
